The DSCG1 is a new concept in Sony Cyber-shot digital cameras. It can carry up to 7,500 VGA photos, display images with spectacular 921k clarity on th eXtraFine 3.5-inch LCD screen, review shots as thumbnail images with advanced search techniques, and share photos via wireless transmission with compatible cameras and DLNA-compatible computers and big screen TVs. With 6.0 megapixel imaging and Super SteadyShot image stabilization, the DSCG1 can also capture sharp, high-resolution images and shoot effectively in log light without a flash, so it's a great snapshot camera, a portable photo album and a wireless sharing device all in one.

Quality Optics and Design

The DSCG1's sleek silver-finish aluminum body has a built-in cover that hides shooting controls for photo viewing and provides simple side buttons to search and access photos on the XtraFine 3.5-inch LCD screen. To shoot, the cover opens and reveals lens and camera control buttons. Over 6 million pixels provide high-resolution detail for making big prints and cropping in tight on your subject. Automatic image management lets you automatically orgainize all your photos based on when they were shot, and you can view photos as thumbnail images and quickly select shots for full-screen viewing. With supplied Album Editor software, the DSCG1 can search photos by color, face or similarity to another image. You can also search by preset labels (up to 50 possible labels) and combine search methods. A built-in slot is provided for compact, high-capacity Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo media (sold separately).

Low Light Image Capture

You can capture great pictures even when there's low light with the DSCG1. Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization compensates for shaky hands to minimize blur even when shooting in low light without flash to preserve the mood. Gyrosensor Detects Shaky Hands

Jitter from shaky hands is one of the main reasons why cameras produce blurry images. Panasonic doesn't expect everyone to have hands of stone when taking pictures -- that's why Lumix cameras help solve the problem of unsteady hands with advanced MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) technology. The DMCFZ50 has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera that instantly calculates the compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the OIS lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the CCD. With the MEGA OIS, not only can you take those distortion-free, ultra-telephoto or macro shots; but you can also take equally impressive photos in low-light and other difficult situations. You won't even notice MEGA OIS working--all you'll see are the outstanding results!

10 Million Pixel Mosaics

Like artists who create beautiful mosaic scenes with small pieces of tile, your camera uses the same idea to create photographs. Digital photos are made up of millions of tiny color elements called pixels, which are generated by the image sensor when you take the photo. The quality of a digital image partially depends on the number of pixels, or resolution, used to make up the image. More pixels add enriching detail and sharpen color edges. More pixels also mean you can enlarge the image without pixelization--when graininess begins to show and the photo looks distorted. The images you get with this camera are typically 3,648 pixels across by 2,736 pixels high, producing a resolution of 9,980,928 pixels--almost 10 million pixels! That's a lot of detail. But, wait, that's not all. In addition, the image stabilizer lens is guiding incoming light straight to the CCD, which converts optical data into digital information to capture the full range of expressive colors. By using a primary color (red, blue, green) filter to ensure the correct extraction of color information, the CCD creates vividly colored images. Simultaneously, the highly evolved brain of the operation, the Venus Engine III LSI processor, is instantly processing and recording the images even faster and more accurately than ever before. And unlike a conventional LSI that generates a luminance signal only from the green component of the incoming light, the Venus III Engine LSI generates a signal from the red and the blue light, as well as the green. This extra-detailed information in the luminance signal then boosts the diagonal, horizontal, and vertical resolution for super-rich images. Additionally, this system uses a low-pass filter to distinguish edges between colors accurately. Due to false signals generated at color borders when the luminance signal is extracted from the pixels by a conventional engine, there is a tendency for colors to bleed into each other. The Venus III Engine however, creates sharp color edges and more clearly defines each distinct color.

In addition to giving you clear, sharp, shots the DMCFZ50 helps you achieve your photographic visions by expanding the shooting mode options. Whether you're more comfortable with an automatic mode, or ready to flex your artistic muscles, this camera will let you. With such a large variety of available modes, you'll be able to find one that best fits the physical setting of your photograph opportunity. For example, the Program Mode lets you adjust the white balance, ISO sensitivity, and other settings; while Aperture Priority lets you select the aperture (incoming light) as the camera automatically sets the shutter speed that's best for the subject's brightness. Shutter Priority Mode does just the opposite by letting you select the shutter speed, while the camera automatically sets the aperture. Want still more control? There's the Manual Exposure Mode, which lets you select both the aperture setting and shutter speed. And to make focusing easy in the Manual Mode, there's even a Focus Assist Function that lets you enlarge the image center in the color viewfinder or LCD monitor by 3x for easy viewing. With MEGA BURST, you can snap off consecutive shots at 3 frames per second with full resolution. Still not enough options? In addition to the exposure modes, there are 14 Scene Modes to reflect the settings of your life. For example, you can choose from Portrait Mode for a soft background with a sharp subject, or use the high-shutter speed Sports Mode, or try the Scenery Mode for sweeping vistas. Night Scenery Mode is great for clear night lights against a landscape. Additionally, there are Night Portrait, Fireworks, Party, Snow, Self-Portrait, Food, Baby, Soft Skin, Candle, and Starry Sky Modes. The DMCFX30 helps you get clear shots every time. Panasonic invented the MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) system to fight against hand-shake, the major cause of blurry images. This system, which takes advantage of Panasonic's outstanding lens technology, has long been incorporated into the LUMIX range of cameras. In addition, the DMCFX30 compensates for the other major cause of blurry images -- subject movement. The Intelligent ISO Control function, made possible by the Venus Engine III, detects subject movement and adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions automatically. Together, they form Intelligent Image Stabilizer, which makes it easy for anybody to take crisp, clear photos in just about any situations. It's automatic, so you can leave everything to the camera.

Prevent Blurry Shots

The MEGA O.I.S. compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. It is now featured on the entire LUMIX range, and is highly popular with users around the world. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images. This is true, of course, for zooming and macro shots, which are especially susceptible to hand-shake, but it also lets you shoot in dimly lit rooms or uneven illumination, without a flash, to preserve the mood. In short, it lets anybody take beautiful, blur-free shots with ease.

Intelligent ISO

When the intelligent ISO control (I.I.C.) in the DMCFX30 camera detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it lets you take beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting. Have you ever mistakenly used a high ISO setting to take a photo of a subject standing still? If so, you may remember the noisy, grainy result. Of, if you have tried snapping a moving subject at a low ISO setting, your photo was probably spoiled by motion blur. Intelligent ISO Control gives you stunning images with ease because there is no need for complicated settings. The new mode dial on the DMCFX30 also lets you select I.ISO (Intelligent ISO Control) Mode. It allows the sensitivity to be raised to a maximum of ISO 1250, or to be set to a limit of ISO 400 or ISO 800. I.ISO Mode produces exactly the image quality that you intend. And, selecting High Sensitivity mode from among the Scene Modes allows the sensitivity to be raised all the way up to ISO 3200. This makes it possible to take sharp, blur-free shots of active children of pets even in indoor settings with limited light.

See The Difference

The large, 2.5-inch LCD screen on the DMCFX30 has a total of 207,000 pixels. The difference is easy to see, with much greater clarity, both when shooting and during playback. The bright LCD is easy to see when taking photos. The DMCFX30 lets you print the date on your photos. In addition to the ordinary recording date, you can choose Baby or Pet mode from among the Scene Modes to print the age of a child or pet by inputting the birthdate in advance, or use the Travel Date setting to print which day of a trip each photo was taken on. These dates, which can be helpful when making a photo album, can be stamped on photos whether you print them yourself at home or have a photo shop do them.

Keeping Control

Versatile Scene Modes are a great LUMIX feature. And the Scene Mode list display makes them even easier to select. In addition to the new Sunset and Pet modes, you can choose from a total of 20 situations, including Underwater (use together with optional marine case) and Aerial Photo, for settings that match your subject. Animated moving icons make mode selection even easier and more fun. As you operate the DMCFX30's dial, large animated icons are displayed. The list format makes it easy to find the mode you want with the mode dial. It also enables a sleek camera design because the dial doesn't have to protrude from the body. Choose Simple Mode and let the camera take care of everything, use Playback Mode to view or process the shots you've taken, or select Direct Printing Mode for direct connection to a printer. This single, easy-to-understand mode dial lets you easily switch between shooting, viewing, and printing.

Great Shooting Options

With the DMCFX30 you can snap off consecutive shooting at 3 frames or 2 frames per second with full resolution. In addition, the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you continue shooting until your memory card is full for a moving subject or a person's changing facial expression. Then save only the best ones. With a digital camera, you can just delete any shots you don't want (the focus and exposure are fixed at the first frame). You can also easily select between different aspect ratios, including 16:9 wide, 3:2 and conventional 4:3 to shoot in the framing aspect that best suits the photo's composition or purpose of use. You can shoot images in the wide 16:9 format and save them onto an SD/SDHC memory card. Then insert the card into a TV equipped with and SD/SDHC card slot to view them in perfect, wide-screen size. Some TVs will display the images in stunning high definition. The DMCFZ30 lets you shoot smooth motion images at 30 frames/second, complete with sound, in 16:9 WVGA (848 x 480 pixels) or VGA (640 x 480 pixels) size. The Venus Engine III in the DMCFX30 allows high-sensitivity recording up to ISO 1250 at full resolution. The noise reduction system is also greatly improved while maintaining high resolution. It removes noise at the processing stages in series. First, critical noise is roughly undraped and the chromatic noise and the luminance noise are separated so they can each go through a supplemental noise reduction process that appropriately minimizes the remaining noise. Panasonic slashed the release time lag to 0.005 second minimum by increasing both the circuit speed itself and the point at which the shutter release signal is detected. They also shortened the shutter interval to around 0.5 second (minimum). These improvements help make the DMCFX30 an extremely quick, responsive camera that's a pleasure to use. Despite the significantly increased performance of the camera, the Venus Engine III consumes only 80 percent of the power utilized by the Venus Engine II and is able to achieve a longer battery life of approximately 280 pictures on a single charge.

Wide-Angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Lens

The DMCLX2S features a 4x optical zoom with a 28 to 112mm wide-angle capability (35mm equivalent). The Extended Optical Zoom, which minimizes the image degradation that normally occurs with digital zooming, gives you up to 6.2 times the zooming power. Choice of Aspect Ratios

A switch at the top of the lens barrel lets you choose an aspect ratio of normal 4:3, wide 16:9, or the 3:2 used in film cameras. A 16:9 image is obtained using the wide-angle lens and large CCD, instead of the conventional method of cropping the top and bottom of a 4:3 image.

2.8" High Resolution LCD

The DMCLX2S's 2.8" (measured diagonally) high-resolution LCD monitor is surprisingly large for such a compact camera. This high-quality, 207,000-pixel display makes it easy to see your subject. For easier viewing when shooting outdoors on a sunny day, you can press the Power LCD button to boost the backlighting by about 40 percent. MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer

Jitter from shaky hands (everybody has them) is one of the main reasons why cameras produce blurry images. You can't expect to have hands of stone when taking pictures. That's why Lumix cameras help solve the problem of unsteady hands with advanced MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer technology. The DMCLX2S has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays the signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the Optical Image Stabilizer lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the CCD. You won't even notice it working. All you'll see are the outstanding results.

Flexible, Single-Switch Focusing

A switch on the side of the lens lets you match the focusing operation to your shot. Choose from 1-point AF (normal or high speed), 3-point high speed AF, 9-point AF, Spot AF, AF macro to focus from as close as .16 feet (5cm) from the subject, or manually focus using the joystick. It not only helps eliminate blur from hand-shake or subject movement, but it will detect up to 15 faces and automatically select the focus, exposure, and scene modes for pristine results. Panasonic invented the MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) system to help the iA with handshake. Together, these technologies unite to form the Intelligent Image Stabilizer. Kind of like having an image stabilizing super hero team in your camera!

Great Shooting Options

With the DMCFX55P you can snap off consecutive shooting at 3 frames or 2 frames per second with full resolution. In addition, the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you continue shooting until your memory card is full for a moving subject or a person's changing facial expression. Then save only the best ones. Simply delete the bad ones. You can also easily select between different aspect ratios, including 16:9 wide, 3:2 and conventional 4:3 to shoot in the framing aspect that best suits the photo's composition or purpose of use. You can shoot images in the wide 16:9 format and save them onto an SD/SDHC memory card. Then insert the card into a TV equipped with and SD/SDHC card slot to view them in perfect, wide-screen size. Some TVs will display the images in stunning high definition. The DMCFXC55P lets you shoot smooth motion images at 30 frames/second, complete with sound, in 16:9 WVGA (848 x 480 pixels) or VGA (640 x 480 pixels) size. You can also shoot at 10 frames/second to reduce the file size.

One Good View? Try Twenty

Versatile Scene Modes are a great Lumix feature. And the Scene Mode list display makes them even easier to select. In addition to the new Sunset and Pet modes, you can choose from a total of 20 situations, including Underwater (use together with optional marine case) and Aerial Photo, for settings that match your subject. Choose Intelligent Auto Mode, and the Intelligent Scene Selector goes to work. The DMCFX55P senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait, or Night Scenery mode accordingly.

Start Your Engine

The Venus Engine III in the DMCFX55P allows high-sensitivity recording up to ISO 1250 at full resolution. The noise reduction system is also greatly improved while maintaining high resolution. It removes noise at the processing stages in series. First, critical noise is roughly undraped. The chromatic noise and the luminance noise are separated so they can each go through a supplemental noise reduction process, which minimizes the remaining noise. Panasonic slashed the release time lag to 0.005 second minimum by increasing both the circuit speed itself and the point at which the shutter release signal is detected. They also shortened the shutter interval to around 0.5 second (minimum). These improvements help make the DMCFX55P an extremely quick, responsive camera that's a pleasure to use. The Venus Engine III is able to achieve a long battery life of approximately 280 pictures on a single charge.

Remain Engaged

Options within the Retouch menu include D-Lighting that automatically balances underexposed portions of an image to enhance detail in these areas, without affecting the highlights of the picture. In-Camera Red-Eye Correction automatically removes the annoying red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash. Images can be trimmed (Trim option) to produce smaller cropped versions of any file on the SD card for greater creative freedom and greater efficiency. Image Overlay merges a pair of selected RAW files to create a composite image within the camera as a RAW or JPEG file. This feature is especially useful when trying to create a soft-focus effect with two similar images. Monochrome settings convert any color image in the camera into a monochromatic picture, in black-and-white, sepia, or cyanotype. Filter Effects emulate and apply the effects of a skylight or a warming filter to any image stored on the SD card. Remember The Viewfinder

If you don't have any experience with digital SLRs, keep in mind that the LCD monitor is used only for menus and viewing photos after they're taken.
